Special Techniques Part II

Panoramic Photography

Using panoramic photography enables you to take wide photographs without getting the distortion that you might get by using a wide angle lens.

A small aperture size helps when using panoramic photography so all aspects of the photograph are in focus.

Things to think about when taking panoramic photographs:

  • Use a tripod
  • Use a Pano Head
  • Use a wide angle lens (will reduce the amount of needed images but be wary of distortion)
  • Decide depth of field
  • Decide on exposure
  • Manual settings
  • Overlap shots by 30% to 50% to guarantee you will have a smooth transition from shot to shot
  • Pre visualise  the shot
  • Best camera position
  • Take several series of shots
  • When shooting outside, think about the lighting conditions. Inconsistent lighting will make it hard to have an evenly lit image
